Mundane Morning ~ Anxious for Christmas

Good Mundane Morning Crafties!  It's a beautiful morning in my neck of the woods. How about where you live?  We had a couple days of all-day rain last week that brought down the temperature significantly. But more importantly, it brought down the humidity. At one point, I thought I felt a little nip of Fall in the air. ☺️🍁🍂  I love it. I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts. I know the miserable sweltering heat will return for August. 😰  Oh well ...

Not much to tell craftwise.  I still have plenty of videos planned.  Probably more than I can do again this year, actually.  My problem is wanting to get started on Christmas already when I still have so much to get out there for Summer and Fall.  I have so enjoyed Christmas in July videos from so many other crafters!🤗  And it made me think... maybe I should be putting out Christmas in July videos. But now July is ending and I just didn't get time. I have so many videos already planned, and then I keep getting new ideas, and then you guys keep giving me awesome suggestions!  I just want to craft all day, every day. 😁  The best schedule I can try to give is that maybe I can get all Summer crafts done by the end of August, post Fall videos, including Halloween AND Thanksgiving, in the months of September and October. If I can do that, then I could devote all of November and December to Christmas crafts. That's the goal for now anyway. You guys wish me luck. I hope I can meet those time frames. So you guys please comment and let me know: Is Christmas in July something that you would like to see from me next year?  Or do you like seeing Summer crafts at that time??  Let me know so I can get an idea of what to plan for next year. It's up to you guys!

Also btw, I've had some viewer suggestions that I think I want to try to bring to life. Now, that means online ordering, often from China which takes fOrEvEr to arrive... so be patient with me please.  But wow!  Y'all had some good ideas!  So I really really want to try to make them happen.

So that's about it in my Craftie world this week guys.  I didn't even make any progress on my craft room. 🤷🏻‍♀️  I kinda took an accidental vacation this week.  I didn't go anywhere; I just sorta took the week off.  I really enjoyed the rest and relaxation. But now I'm anxious to get back at it!

I'll be in touch. And you can find me right here every "Mundane (Monday) Morning" to find out what I'm up to and what I'm planning.  Until next time friends, stay Craftie! 😉

Vintage Rose Earrings

Remember my Vintage Rose Necklace Pendant?  Here's an accompanying pair of earrings, made from smaller cameo settings that I bought by mistake when trying to find the ones for the necklace.  What a wonderful serendipity craft moment!  I love these every bit as much as, if not even more than, the pendant.  They're so dainty! 😍  I just love them!  You could still use this as a necklace pendant as well, if you prefer a dainty, more delicate pendant rather than a more prominent one.

Hamburger Bead Charm

This little hamburger charm has been a long time coming!  My daughter suggested a burger charm over a year ago and I really didn't think I'd be able to find the right components to do it, but...  Here it is!!  I'm so excited that it has finally come together!  A couple of beads, a few buttons, and even some fun foam... Looks good enough to eat! 😋  I love Summery, cook-out themes.  First the BBQ Grill charm, now this...  And just wait until you see what's coming in tomorrow's video! 😉

Mundane Morning ~ Slow Craft Room Progression

Good Mundane Morning Crafties! 🤗  It's time, again, to take a moment, sit back, and catch up on what's happening in my Craftie world... ☕️

As you all know, my biggest Craftie commitment lately has been my craftroom.  I actually haven't done anything to it this week. My son has been visiting from out of town all week so I took that time to focus on visiting with him.  However, during that time, I have received some things for the room that I had ordered. 😁  First of which was some wood grain contact paper. My idea for this is to attemp to re-cover a pair of laminate drawer units that I have under my new work area, using this contact paper and mod podge.  This may or may not be worth the trouble. And it may or may not even work.  I'm reluctant about this step. I'm only even considering it because of the many many varying wood tones I've ended up with in there. My whole craft room is a hodgepodge of furniture that has been discarded from other rooms.  The drawer units are what I think is a rather ugly yellowish color but I've kept them because they are good quality.  I find myself wondering if it'd just be better to keep them as they are and deal with the ugly color, just to keep the integrity and durability that they have.  I could use some advice if y'all have any. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I still have made no advancement toward achieving bead shelves above my beading desk.😕  This is something that I really want. I need to get busy drawing up some plans for that...

There is one very small thing that I am quite happy with though. And that is a small, inexpensive storage ottoman that I ordered from Walmart.  It will be wonderful extra storage space. But the best part is that it fits perfectly under my window to create an adorable little window seat for my fur baby Fancy. 💖🐶  She loves to go into the craft room with me and she already loves her new window seat. ☺️

Also, I continue building up my paper-crafting supplies.  I've nearly got what I need to at least begin. Be patient with me. I'll get there. 😉

As for videos, I'll probably have some beading videos for you this week. I did receive the final component for an adorable Summer time bead charm. I've been searching for about a year for just the perfect beads for this charm and I've finally got everything! 🤗  So, be on the lookout for some beading videos this week.

So, that's about it for now. Be sure to log on next Mundane Morning to see if I've progressed any further. Meanwhile, I'll be dreaming of a completed craftroom, paper crafting, and cooler weather. 🍁🍂

Until next time friends, stay Craftie! 😉

Fairy Garden Mushroom Decoration

This mushroom decoration is great for your outdoor fairy garden or just for indoor decoration.  Either way, this is such a cute idea!  And it's super simple. Just find a bowl with a fairly rounded bottom to become your rounded mushroom top and a vase for the mushroom stem.  I painted spots on the bowl with an outdoor craft paint and added some pebbles inside of the vase to weight it down, then just glued the two together to form the mushroom.  (Be sure to use a weather-resistant glue if your mushroom is going to be an outdoor decoration.)  Any fairy or gnome would be proud to live under this mushroom.😉

Mushroom Table Setting

At your Fairy themed or video game themed party, be sure to put something on the menu to be served in a bowl so you can create this cute fairyland mushroom table setting!  All it takes is a red bowl, a styrofoam cup, and a few round label stickers from the office supply department.  This couldn't be easier!

At children's fairy parties, be sure to include flower crowns for all the little girls to be fairies, and red party hats for all the little boys to be gnomes!  So fun!!!  Also, my Spring Leaf Napkin Fold would be really cute with this.  Instead of a traditional cake, you could serve a cake roll decorated as a log with icing flowers.  A faux grass table cover, candy "rocks", pink sparkling punch to drink, fairy lights all around... Ooh, how cute!  I think I want a fairy party for myself. 😏

These mushrooms could also be used for a Mario or gamer themed party.  Make some "1 up" mushrooms with green bowls instead of red.  Add another cup to the setting in green as the pipes.  Give gold-wrapped chocolate coins as a treat.  You could put green spots on some white plastic Easter eggs with treats inside as a Yoshi egg party favor.  Maybe a brick-look table cover.. Cloud shapes for placemats... Oh my gosh, there is so much you could do with this theme!  Sooo many possibilities!

Get Craftie and let me know what else you can come up with.  Any ideas for what to serve on the menu to utilize that bowl??? 🤷🏻‍♀️🍵

Mushroom Napkin Folding

I can't get enough of fairyland mushrooms!  I just think they're so cute.  Prepare yourselves to see a couple more crafts to go along with this same theme.😉  I kinda got a little carried away.😄  You only need one polka dot napkin and one white napkin to make this mushroom napkin fold.  It's great for any Fairy themed party as well as Mario or gamer themed parties.  For a more "natural" mushroom look, you can use a napkin with a wood grain look, or even just neutral beige, tan, and brown napkins.  Get Craftie, let your imagination run wild, and see what other ideas you can come up with, and be sure to let me know!    Which mushroom is your favorite?

Mundane Morning ~ Fairy Crafts

Good Mundane Morning Crafties!  It's that time of year when I start dreaming of Fall.  The heat of Summer just gets to be too much for me and I long for the chill of October in the air, a big cozy sweater, and a mug full of hot apple cider.  I always get anxious for Fall when July comes.  So, I get anxious for Fall crafting as well!  It's difficult for me to choose a most favorite season.  Fall is so cozy and the colors of the leaves are simply gorgeous!  Winter is a magical wonderland that's all about Christmas and miracles!  Spring is an explosion of life and color!  So how can I pick a favorite?  However, I do know that my LEAST favorite is Summer, hands down.  The sweltering heat, the snakes, the overgrowth of weeds... Ugghhh!  I love, love, love to spend time outdoors.  But these days I just can't tolerate the Summer heat as well as I used to.  I find myself staying in with the air conditioning more often than not.  So, I have decided to (whenever possible) stay inside in the cool, pretend that the world is that cool temperature for real, and work on some Fall crafting!  I do have a few more Summer craft ideas to get out there to you guys.  But within the next 2 to 3 weeks, I really want to start putting out some Fall videos.  I have a lot planned for Fall, and even more for Winter/Christmas.  I'm concerned of getting them all done in time before the season is gone.  Some of them I've carried over from last year because I didn't get time to do everything that I had planned.  I really don't want that to happen again this year.  There is one Christmas craft in particular that I didn't get to do last year and I really want to do it this year!  It's one that I've actually been wanting to create for several years now for my home, even before I had a YouTube channel or blog.  It's very meaningful to me and I really want to bring this idea to life this year.  When I do, it will probably have to be done in a series of videos.  One more item to order and I think I'll be ready to start on it..

Meanwhile... Coming this week, you can expect to see some more fairy themed crafts.  I just can't get enough of fairies and fairyland!  I have three videos coming this week for you, all with a fairyland theme... actually all focusing on the same element of the fairyland theme.🍄  I really like them and I hope you guys will too.

I'm also still trying to gather supplies for paper crafting.  Although I did do quite a bit of scrapbooking in years past, I still feel like somewhat of a newbie to paper crafting.  I never did get into card making and other paper crafts.  So, I kinda feel like I need to do a little bit of independent experimenting before I just start throwing videos out there.  So, if you guys have any tips or advice to offer, I'm listening!  My ultimate goal in paper crafting is to create my own Christmas cards to send out this year to friends and family.  I've always wanted to do that, but the furthest I got was printing a few personalized things onto the store-bought cards.  I would so love to completely create them myself!  I think that would make them so much more special. 😊

And on the craftroom front, my new craftroom is coming along, slowly but surely.  I definitely have more crafting space than I have ever had.  It's all a mixed up jumble of different wood tones of furniture that has been repurposed from other rooms.  But I'm okay with that!  Like I said, it's more crafting space than I've ever had, so I'll take what I can get.  To be honest, I don't think I will be able to finish all of the shelving projects and everything that I had planned for my craft room.  Not this year anyway.  I have a LOT of plans for that room, so I guess it's gonna take a LOT of time to get it all accomplished.

Don't forget yo check in with me next Mundane Morning to see what's going on then. Also, log on every Wednesday afternoon for my Friendsday Afternoon blog post featuring a new Craftie that has been inspiring to me.

Until next time friends, stay Craftie! 😉

Pool Party Table Setting

Just another quick little idea for your Summer gatherings: a spin-off from the Beach Table Setting, with a few changes to easily convert it into a Pool Party theme.  I love to make table settings a little more special, while still using simple, easy-to-find party supplies.  And best of all for Summer, it's all disposable, no-fuss, easy clean-up party decor.   This table setting reminds me of a relaxed day by the pool on a striped beach towel under a shade umbrella...  The addition of the peach gummy "float" and the Twizzler "pool noodle" just add an extra touch of whimsy.. and I'm ALL ABOUT whimsy! 😎  Another idea I had was if you can't find affordable clear plates, just use paper plates in the pool blue color and replace the table cover with a lime green color.  Maybe add a bubble gum "beach ball". 😉  I challenge you guys to see what party supplies or candy treats you could add to this pool party setting, and let me know what you come up with!

Mundane Morning ~ Let's Connect

Good Mundane Morning Crafties!  This is my first "Mundane Morning" blog post, and if you didn't see my YouTube video announcement.. this is going to be one of two weekly blog-exclusive posts here on Craftie Kaleidoscope.  "Mundane Morning" will be where I post about my Craftie day-to-day life, what's going on with me each week, Craftie video plans and ideas, craftroom happenings, new craft interests, inspirations, projects, etc...

Well, I call it "mundane" as it deals with ordinary day-to-day life.  It does not have to mean "boring". However, it will be an opportunity to slow down and relax.  So, take a moment, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let's connect. :-)

We've got a lot going on this week:

First of all, I've developed another avenue for sharing with our new Facebook group "Craftie Minds".  It's a great place for sharing craft ideas, photos, and inspiration.  I also welcome you to share your crafting business page, YouTube channel, Etsy shop, etc.  I want Craftie Minds to be a place that will encourage growth for us ALL.  It's a lot of fun!  Be sure to go over and join our group.
Join our group
Also, I am sTiLL working on my new craft room.  My son moved out back in March, making his old room available to become my new craft room.  It is the largest of the three children's rooms and I'm so excited to be turning it into my craft room! :-D  However, it's been a little bit of a slow go.  I've been trying to work on creating the room itself while at the same time making lots of videos.  Making and editing the videos does take away a lot of time from working on the room, but I've got so many ideas that I want to get out there to you guys!  I'll make time to work on the room as I go along.

My most recent accomplishment was getting a new "work surface" installed.  I purchased a 20 inch X 8 foot butcher block counter style piece of lumber.  I cut it down to 7 feet, which is still pretty massive!  I stained it to match a desk that I already had in my craft room, which I use for paper crafting.  I actually mixed stains to get a color match and I think I did pretty good! :-D  I then gave it a few coats of polyurethane and let that dry for a few days.  My husband mounted it to the wall on one end for me and made legs for the other end.  It's positioned directly beside my paper crafting desk (and has file drawer units underneath), effectively turning it into a huge L-shaped desk!  I'm so excited about that!  But that's not the best part.  It's between my paper crafting desk and my beading desk, also turning my beading desk into a huge L-shaped work area!  All three together create sort of a T-shaped configuration so I can use it from either side, whether from my paper crafting desk or my beading desk.  I'm also hoping it will be large enough to film my napkin folding videos on, so I won't have to move everything into the kitchen when I film one of those.  I just love it!  I have sooo much space that I didn't have before.  I don't know if I've explained it well.  But you guys will see..  I plan to do a "Craft Room Tour" video when I get it further along.  Just be patient with me.  It is taking quite a long time trying to work on it AND make videos but we'll get there. ;-)  I've waited almost 25 years to get this craft room.  No sense in rushing it now.  I want to take my time with it.  I would also like to create some shelving on the wall above my beading desk to store all my bead containers close at hand.  They're currently on the floor underneath my beading desk, lol.  I have sooo many plans for how to deck out that room, but too many to tell in just one blog post.  We'll dig deeper as we go.  Maybe you guys might have some organizational  ideas for me along the way.  I would love to hear them.

Another new development, as most of you know, is my newfound interest in paper crafting.  Years ago I did a lot of scrapbooking and I want to get back into that.  I still have SeVeRaL events from my children's school days that have not yet been entered into the scrapbooks.  For such a long time, I ended up storing away most of my paper crafting supplies and they were just not accessible.  Now that I'm getting everything moved into my new craft room, I can access EVERYTHING and I'm so excited!  I not only want to pick up where I le ft off with the scrapbooking; I also want to get more into card making and things like that.  You guys saw my "Stamping Haul" video, right?  I've been able to get a really good start on some card making (scrapbooking) supplies.  I recently made a couple more orders for supplies.  I guess I'm just waiting on my craft room to be closer to completion.  Then I can get in there and just brainstorm!  I already have a couple of really cute ideas for cards, invitations, gift tags, and so much more.  I just can't wait to jump into it!  I feel like I've been doing nothing but bead charms lately.  I don't want y'all to get bored.  I want to offer a broader range of crafting.  I know that paper crafting/card making will be so much fun!  I hope you guys will enjoy it too.

Always continue commenting and letting me know what you want to see.  And don't forget to log on every Monday morning for another "Mundane Morning" blog post, and also every Wednesday afternoon for my "Friendsday Afternoon" blog post where I feature YOU, the viewers.  I receive so much inspiration and encouragement from you guys, I just can't keep it all to myself.  These will be in addition to my craft posts featuring all the crafts that I make in my YouTube videos, including links to the videos.  Be sure to "Follow by email" here on the blog to be notified when there's a new blog post so you won't miss anything.

Until next time friends, stay Craftie! 😉

Jellyfish Bead Charms

These charms are sooo easy to make!  There are only two components involved in creating a jellyfish.  I've had these beads since Christmas.  I received them as a Christmas gift.  I knew right away that they had to become jellyfish.  I just say jellyfish when I looked at them.  I've been waiting all this time to come up with an idea for the tentacles.  I originally thought I would make the tentacles from strands of fishing line strung with seed beads.  I had never carried that out because I just was not completely satisfied with the idea.  I was afraid the beaded strands would just be way too bulky in comparison to the bead by the time I created multiples.  But recently I was at Walmart, browsing in the fishing department, when I saw these fishing lures on sale.  I immediately knew these were my jellyfish tentacles! 😄  The colors of the ones there on sale even perfectly matched my jellyfish beads!

The magic here is simply in finding the right components.  After that it goes together in a matter of seconds.  I love these!  I wish I'd found these fishing lures before Father's Day.  Wouldn't this be a perfect addition to Dad's fishing cap?  In addition to the Fish Bead Charms, the Fishing Bobber Bead Charm, and the Camping Lantern Bead Charm, Dad's fishing cap would be pretty decked out!  Maybe even an Arrow Bead Charm if he's into bowfishing. 😉

Mamaw J's Baked Beans

This recipe was given to me by my mother-in-law many years ago.  We have had these baked beans at almost every holiday dinner or cookout ever since.  I've kept the ingredients the same but I changed up the prep a little bit in order to make them a little healthier.  The recipe does not call for precooking the bacon, but rather, just adding it on the top of the bean mixture and letting it cook in the oven as everything else cooks.  I first started precooking the bacon simply to render away the fat first, so that there would be less fat in the finished dish, and also I didn't particularly like the resulting texture of the bacon in the original method.  By doing this, I figured out that I could cut the bake time in half by taking advantage of an already-hot skillet.  After cooking the 1 inch pieces of bacon, I removed the bacon to a paper towel lined plate.  I then drained away almost all of the bacon fat from the pan, leaving only a couple Tablespoons in the pan ('cause you gotta have SoMe of that bacon grease flavor, right?) ;-)  With that couple Tablespoons of bacon fat, I threw in my chopped onion and bell pepper for a quick saute.  I learned that by sauteing the veg for a couple minutes first, I could cut the overall bake time down from 2 hours to only 1 hour!  Half the time and almost none of the fat?  That's a winner in my book!  Also, these are the most delicious baked beans I've ever eaten.  Before receiving this recipe, I didn't even like baked beans.  Y'all give 'em a try.  Here's the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:
5  16 oz.  cans pork-n-beans
1  Bell Pepper, chopped (usually green, but I use a combo of red & green at Christmas)
2  Medium (or 1 Large) Onion, chopped
1/2 cup Ketchup
1/2 cup Chili Sauce (or, as I like to call it: chunky ketchup. lol)
1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar (use light or dark, whichever you prefer)
1 Tbsp. Yellow Mustard (however feel free to use your fave.. dijon, spicy brown, etc.)
1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
1 lb. Bacon (cut into 1" pieces and cooked)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix all together in a 9"x13" pan.  Bake uncovered @ 350 for about 1 hour.

*TIP*
For an eVeN quicker method, minimal cleanup and ZERO added fat, you can just buy precooked bacon and cut it into 1" pieces.  Then zap the peppers and onions in the microwave for about a minute to soften them up.  This will still cut your bake time down to 1 hour.  The uncooked bacon and firm uncooked veggies were the reason for the long bake time anyway.  This way you get these delicious home-cooked baked beans at your holiday without spending all your time in the kitchen.  And who wants to do a lot of cooking and heat up your kitchen in the Summer?  Right?

Enjoy! :-D

Disco Ball Bead Charm

Just a fun and quick little bead charm.  In my opinion, this multi-color rhinestone shamballa bead kinda speaks for itself.  What else could it be but a disco ball?!  All I really had to do was give it a stand.  As a teen from the 80's, this is ~ToTaLLy~ one of my faves. ;-)
It couldn't be simpler!

Arrow Bead Charm

VIEWER REQUEST!  Thanks so much to Deb for this suggestion.  She challenged me with the suggestion for an arrow charm inspired by her husband's love of bow hunting.  My husband is a hunter as well, so I was excited to give this a try!  I came up with this version that uses simple, common, easy-to-find bead shapes so everyone could find the beads and be able to recreate this charm for themselves.  I hope Deb likes it and I hope you ALL like it.  Please comment and let me know.

I LOVE when you guys give me suggestions.  Keep 'em comin'!
